Percy Terrell, I guess you could label him as the neighborhood rapist I suppose. Everyone knew what he did to little boys in his truck across the way. He was only talking to Dean to make a sexual propositions and of course to be nosy and see what he was up to. Percy just seemed very entitled he wanted to be the only white man in town with land. he just felt like everyone owed him something.
When I first started watching this film it was very interesting because it was a lot of people telling their stories about what they had to go through just because of how they felt about someone. Some of them even got un-owned which is really crazy. Even in some of the pictures you could see that they were afraid to show how they were really feeling. The film didn’t really change my opinion about LGBT Community because before I never really had an opinion on this subject because it never affected me personally. After watching the film though, it just made me more aware of how big this issue really is. In my opinion not much has changed since this film in a way. People are still hateful and mean towards one another because everyone wants to have an opinion of other people’s lives.
Do your first blog post: What do you see as the cultural, historical, and political value of a film like Before Stonewall? Your response must be a minimum of 300 words and posted by the date noted on the course schedule. Support your argument with evidence/examples from the film.
After watching a film like Before Stonewall it made me more aware of all the things people had to go through just to be able to express their emotions and feelings towards one another. This is a very good educational film is displays the cultural and social behavior was very wild. People were just breaking the law because it was something to do. A saying they all used to live by was ” Break the law and live as wild as you can”. Before gays were allowed to be publicly gay they had to hide who they truly were. Sexuality wasn’t a thing for anyone just yet it wasn’t something anyone did it was a behavior. Denial was the only option, for some sadly suicide was the option they chose. This film also talks about how the LGBT evolved and how gays decided to come together and create a movement for what they believe is right. The first thing that gave them courage was gay bars and such. Just them knowing that they weren’t the only ones who felt different gave them confidence. It was very shocking to most that they can be gay in public after the movement. New York the spot for everyone to go almost like a safe haven a place people knew it was okay to be themselves. Harlem became the spot for most black gays. It wasn’t only blacks allowed but Harlem was their spot to be not that the atmosphere was gay, it was just open. Eventually, the population grew and homosexuals came out of hiding. They didn’t call their actions gay though it was just something that people did. Women started getting government/federal jobs which caused them to have to wear slacks instead of skirts so women just decided to start dressing how they wanted. Even the lesbian women got married because they “had to “ they would still be with other women whilst married. This then lead to gay women being in the military and having jobs that most men would have this created history. For gay men instead of going to the Army they joined drag-shows this was a way for them to come out of hiding and express their feelings without being judged because to everyone else it was just a show.
Pick Image Gay Liberation.
Where did your eyes go? How did the artist get your attention to go there? Why do you think your eyes where attracted to that point?
When I first seen this image my eyes were drawn to the two ladies sitting on the bench. This caught my attention because the within the two females one of them had their hand on the others thigh. In today’s generation that is usually a symbol that a relationship is happening between the two. Kind of a way to mark their territory. Next thing that grabbed my eyes were the fact that there was four people in the photo but the two ladies were sitting together and the two men were leaning upon one another and one guy had his arm around the other. Again their body language tells it’s own story.
What is voice in writing? I feel the voice in writing is how the narrator or author portrays themselves throughout their stories. It can also depend on the type of tone they may use. Their style of writing and language also plays a big role into voice of writing as well. It’s overall how the narrator tells the story and how he or she can make the readers and listeners feel like they are involved. When someone is reading anyone’s work, as a writer you don’t want to make them feel like they need to guess what’s going on. You would want them to be able to feel as if they are actually apart of what may be going on in the stories or at least as if they are there too. Through all of these things the author must also include whatever information of message he or she is trying to speak about.
One of the symbols I think was important were the falling deck of cards from the lady’s hand. I would say she is some sort of Queen or have at least something to do with some form of royalty, Anyone could guess this due to her attire and background. The deck of cards stood out to me because it looked as if she was playing some sort of single player game and some how just ended up giving up or something major occurred and scared er which could have caused her to drop the cards. In the lower corner of this portrait there is a frantic like cat which gives me more reason to think something shocking just happened. Her facial expresses look almost as if she;s trapped in that lifestyle as if she were born into royalty but she clearly doesn’t have a choice so she looks stuck and annoyed. Specifically it looks like she is holding onto an Ace but it’s hard to tell. Nxt I noticed there is a wine bottle on the table along with wine glasses that seem to be empty maybe the lady was drunk even though the glasses were squeaky clean maybe she drank straight from the bottle and that caused her to drop the cards.
The first thing I noticed was the Queen, because her red dress caught my eye. I’d say she was a Queen because of they way she was dressed she also had on a crown. Next was the playing cards falling from her hand, she was sitting at a round table with a green table cloth alone with wine and a glass surrounding her. This represents royalty to me because green usually signals money. White horses were in the background, purity and they were walking on nice tile floor so this lady was wealthy. Just the way the background was painted it has so much detail in the archways and brick wall. The Queens facial expression looks lonely I can assume because she was playing cards alone. I feel the artist was trying to send the message of no matter how much money someone has. money can’t buy happiness as the Queen was sitting alone.
What you practice grows stronger, No matter the situation is if repetition is involved it’s a fact that you will get better at it. For example I relate to this statement because I’ve been working on controlling my attitude. I have a very short temper but I’ve been keeping it under control by isolating myself from a lot of people. I know this is not the best way to handle this situation but it works for me, I don’t mind being alone. Since this program I decided to try and be friendly and it was okay the first couple of weeks. Now It’s just too much drama going around, nobody has time for that. The way I feel is if you don’t want to fight me about it then shut up and these people aren’t even worth fighting. I’m not here for that anyways, I’m here to get my credits and go to school that’s it. I’m not worried about who’s my friend and who’s not we’re to grown for that petty mess now. Since all this stuff has occurred it’s just reminded me why I keep to myself so I’m just going to go back to my old ways that were working for me.
This is america, I have heard this song before, it’s a banger lmao. I’m glad Professor Harmon choose it because it’s really hype. I have never seen the music video though it is dope though I must say . This song is catchy too just makes me want to get up and dance like the beat goes too hard. Gambino had great dance moves in the video but I like how he included american history into the video and lyrics as well like his lyrics wasn’t just words to put on a track if you really listen it makes sense. I would like to know why he felt he had to start the video off with a murder why was he so angry? What was his message behind this music video?
As I was walking the mint museum I made my way to the third floor, I noticed The threshold by Danny Lane it was pretty cool stacked glass with abstract objects set up behind and colorful lights so on the opposite side it look like cool abstract artI really liked it because of the lights it kind of made me dizzy while looking at it for too long but I still liked it. Next I noticed a giant wedding cake but it had the words “till death do us part” behind it with a giant grenade as the cake topper instead of a normal happily ever after wedding cake. Then as I went up to the 4th floor I noticed the big green sign made construction paper and within the work it said “under construction “ I thought that was pretty cool. Next I noticed a Giant sculpture of a beast like human, the sculpture was called “ Big mother” as I read through the article It talks about the history of when humans change over from monkey/apes to humans. I was confused with her feet thought because that looked like hands It was very detailed though which I thought was cool. I seen a painting a picture of Obama as well it was really good painting and huge. Also there was a big 3D made by cristina cordova it was interesting because they were mounted on the wall. The gestures they were making was as if they were trying to say something but couldn’t
